polenta- yuck!

By Ron Kule

I will never, never, EVER eat polenta ever again! Even the smell or thought of polenta drives me away.

You see, I was forced to eat polenta as a young child enrolled at a boarding school. YUCK!

Guess you could say there is a connection between food smells and how we feel about them. Or a connection when having to eat foods we dislike under duress.

Succulent, buttered Maine lobster tails -- now there's a food I could eat any time! Once my wife and I actually ate back-to-back lobster tail meals. We were in Maine, and the prices were insanely cheap. We still laugh about that lunch, but the best part of that event is we drove down the road a few miles and bought and ate a complete homemade blueberry pie right in the car!

P.S. If it's cold and wet...I'll eat it, drink it or scoop it. Fruits, fruit juices and ice-cream fit into this category nicely.

Ron Kule writes about many things, including healthy products, significant events, opinions about how to make the economy better, and his own creative writing projects including poetry, short stories, novels and screenplays. Some of these will be available on his upcoming web site, coolartworks.com

Chicken Paprikash (sp?) is my personal favorite - if made the right way Hungarian style.

What in Sam Hill is "polenta"?

James, I was going to comment with data, but you've already got the answer in these other comments!
I'll brace myself, though, and write a Intel on polenta.

I love polenta! When it is fried and made with cheese, its so so good! sorry you were made to eat it way back when, thats too bad its now ruined for you. Lobster for me I could do without. lol.

I'm laughing with ya! We seem to be opposites in diet...does that make us "food lovers?" (opposites attract?)

Oh, I am laughing so hard at this and at James's reply, "What the sam hill is polenta?"

To James, I'll say, "Corn meal mush with a fancy name!""

And to you, Ron, I used to love corn casserole until they fed us one in a college dorm that had a cockroach baked in it, and now I cannot go near one. So I know your feeling. It also took me a long time to be able to drink tomato juice after having worked my way through the junior year of high school cleaning the juice glasses in a smorgasbord restaurant.

Mmmm, it may be time for a blueberry smoothie!

I second the emotion on that blueberry smoothie...and if we can't get to it, a tall scoop of Marble Slab Creamery blueberry ice-cream atop a crispy waffle cone will do!

Back on the farm, in the 40's, homemade baked beans and corn bread was Saturday nights dinner. I.m sure tha this was New England corn bread and not "polenta".
Thank for the memories, Ron.
Best wishes.
