ragdoll pet cats

By Ron Kule

I have two cats, Lila and Rembrandt (aka, Remy) who are both purebred RagDoll breed.
RagDolls are of Persian cat descent; they look reminscent of that breed and they have a similar gentle manner about them.
My cats are not intrusive. While they enjoy our company, they do not jump all over us or demand much more than some affection from time to time and when, of course, they are hungry.
Our cats are fed, and do enjoy, fresh meats and grated fresh vegetables. We try to feed them organically as much as possible. The brand food they like most is, Pet Guard, which has wholesome ingredients for them.
Each time we come home they come to the door to greet us and will remain in the area until acknowledged with a pet or a few strokes on their coats.
When they want to eat they both strike a similar pose which is to sit nearby with front paws close together. They will wait patiently and never take their eyes off you until you get their food for them. The neatest trick , though, is to place their food plate on a table with a chair nearby...and watch them eat off the plates while sitting in the chair like a human.
If they ever seem antsy, we will use flower remedies to calm them, and when a bit sniffly they get homeopathic remedies which they respond well to immediately.
Our pets are home cats, although my wife did take Remy outside a few times...and now he always wants to go out. Lila has always been inside, and she doesn't want to go outside ever.
Remy has been with us from a few days old. We got him from a breeder near Miami, FL. after we had visited there and selected him. He is now 10 years old.
Lila came from a breeder in Levittown, Long Island, NY, and we flew up there and brought her back with us when he was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. She is now 8 years old.
Both cats were selected from breeders who specialize in this breed, but, while both are purebred, we did not count on Lila's longer hair! She sheds hair everywhere, much to our dismay! Remy's hair does not shed as much, alomst negligibly.
Last winter we had Lila shaved to look like a small lion, and that handled a lot of the hair problem at its peak time, but we were scared she would get too cold, so this winter it's a long coat all year.
When we first got our cats I considered myself a "dog" person and I actually did not like cats due to a bad incident with a stray when I was young, but I have grown to love these two...except for Lila's hair!
I would recommend purebred RagDolls for a pet, because they are gentle, intelligent, non-demanding and they like to be close but not right on top of you.
If you get them looking like ours - with seal points, mitted paws and paintbrush tails, and descendent from award-winning show parents, you will have some beautiful pets to add to your daily lives.
